Our Story
Where Our Mezcal Hasn’t Left Our Hands, Until It Touches Yours
The Landa Family
The Landa family farm has been in Israel’s family for over 100 years, from planting tomatoes to now planting agaves. Owned by Dr. Israel and Rio Landa, we had a vision to reinvent the family farm into a sustainable, Single Estate agave farm and palenque (agave distillery). Brought together by the love of our farm, our community, and of course mezcal.
Mezcal is celebrated throughout Mexico, bringing together family and friends, often sipped in times of celebration, sadness, and joy. We crafted Mezcal Argato out of love for artisanal mezcal and our land.
Our dream of creating a Single Estate mezcal came true in Mezcal Argato, where everything from seed to bottle is done in one location, our farm. We are forged in Guerrero, not Oaxaca, meaning our land is high in the mountains and enjoys a more humid climate. We are in the Silver Belt of Mexico, therefore, our terroir yields a more brighter, fruitier mezcal.
We welcome you to the Silver Age of Mezcal, brought to you, with love from the Landa Family.
Accessibility & Community
Mezcal Argato isn’t just about mezcal and sustainability. Most distilleries are built for one thing, Production. Ours was built with open arms. When we built our distillery from the natural stone on our land, we ensured the entire facility was 100% handicap-accessible.
This commitment strikes a very tender chord for our family. Our son, Mateo, lives with spinal muscular atrophy, and navigates his life from a wheelchair. He is the heartbeat of this mission.
We are dedicated to helping our community. Here we bring needed medical supplies to our local community. This work is deeply meaningful to the Landas who both work in healthcare as a physician and nurse practitioner, respectively. Together, we hope to increase our community outreach bringing medical supplies to rural villages.
Master Mezcalero Chavo
Our master mezcalero Chavo grew up on this land and he is Israel’s uncle! He oversees farm operations and among many things, is an expert in agave cultivation.
